Issue 114: When You Don't Know Where You're Going, You'll Find Yourself Somewhere Else

It’s impossible to map out a route to your destination if you don’t know where you’re starting from

Took the wrong path in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula!

In this ongoing series about building an intentional circle of influence, this Bounce-Up™ Chronicles issue covers one of the often-asked questions “How do I know who needs to be in my inner circle?”

If you missed the last two issues that covered who could be toxic and identify the people who root for you, you’ll want to read Issues 112 and 113.

But before you can build your inner circle, you need to consider where you want to go? What’s your purpose or your big hairy audacious goal, aka BHAG? If you don’t know where you’re going, life will create a path that might not be your destination. Sometimes, we end up at a place we never intentionally wanted to go, like I did on a bicycle in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan during a thunderstorm.

Deciding where you want to go is your next step. Without this step, building an intentional circle of influence is challenging. Reflect on what goals you want to achieve. Start with where you want to be by the end of the year. Then, brainstorm your two-year aspirations, plans, and achievements.

Be careful not to let the “how” to do it get in the way of your “what” you want to do. Go big. Go bold.

Next, what will you need to hit that target? First, consider what you don’t have and list it. Then, move on to what you will need.

Once you determine your goals and what you need, the next step is building your inner circle around your big and bold plans. Stay tuned for our next Bounce-Up Chronicles so you’ll know who your first member will be.
