Issue 113: How Often Do You Evaluate Your Inner Circle?

Mj and NSA colleague Lisa Ryan. Lisa hits the + column!

In continuing the Inner Circle series, it’s time to evaluate the “who” factor. During one of my recent workshops, a participant asked, “We’re trying to figure out “How do we identify our inner circle people who can help us reach our goals?” It’s a similar question asked frequently.

  • Who are they?

  • How do they influence you?

Although the people you spend the most time with are considered your circle of influence, they might not be the ones you want to spend valuable time discussing your plans, ambitions, or goals.

The people you spend more time with can influence your decisions to hit your aspirations or take away from your goals because our community influences our thoughts, and our thoughts can determine our future.

In myBounce-Upbook, I talk about your Power Team—your circle of influence (aka community, village, inner circle) and that kicks off the second question I’m asked,“How do I build my Power Team, my circle, to help me get the momentum I need?”

Before getting the right people on our team, we must evaluate the ones who get our time. So often, we give people our most valuable resource, our time, unintentionally. Now, it’s time to be intentional about it. First, reflect and write down who you spend time with. Next to each one, add a plus sign (+) because you know they’re always cheering you on. Add a minus sign (-) if you feel they don’t.

The names with a minus sign beside them are not good Power Team candidates. It doesn’t mean you have to avoid them altogether. It means you need to limit sharing your aspirations with them. The people rooting for you are the ones to consider for your Power Team (aka community, village, inner circle). They will help you reach your goals.

In the next Bounce-Up Chronicles, we’ll introduce the first member in your circle of influence.

Bounce-Up Momentum Builder

Here are a few questions to help you decipher who a fantastic inner circle member could be:

  1. Who encourages you?

  2. Who energizes you?

  3. Who has been where you want to be?

  • Following my presentation at the ABA Conference, the editor of Groups Today Magazine interviewed me for the article Improving Your Follow-Up Messaging to Land More Sales for the May/June issue. (Pages 18 & 19)

  • I had a wonderful dinner with one of my NSA friends/colleagues during a whirlwind business travel month. Would you be surprised to hear we discussed taking our business to the next level? Lisa Ryan hits the + column. 😊
